The YoungDAB recently held a roundtable forum for exchanging opinion on education and career issues of young people. We invited Ms. Apple Tse, Head of Hong Kong Christian Service, Dr. Chan Cheuk-Hay, Principal of the HKCT and Dr. Glenn Hui, Instructor of the Department of Public Policy in City University as guests. The YoungDAB had a useful exchange of views on life planning, career and education, employment and professional training with guests.
Ms. Apple Tse felt that “Life planning can allow young people to better understand themselves and to discover their strengths”. Dr. Chan Cheuk-Hay said that “There is a mismatch in the current education system and therefore we need to change the admission system of universities.” Dr. Glenn Hui felt that “currently some students choose a gap year to allow themselves more time to experience the world and think of their futures. The government can think of ways to reduce the economic burden on students by providing their financial support”.
YoungDAB Chairperson Ngan Man-Yu said that “the YoungDAB holds this roundtable forum to hold exchanges and meet with specialist academics in this field. We listen to the advice from everybody here, and in the future the YoungDAB will continue to hold such events with different experts and academics from different backgrounds. This will further improve our proposals to the government regarding youth policy.”
